The Old House and Its Occupants, image/text video presented in PROTEXT, Illinois State Museum, 2014-15, curated by Robert Sill.

The second short film in a series, The Old House and Its Occupants combines digitally manipulated original and found footage with text extracted from Shadow Land, the 19th century memoir of a well-known spiritualist and medium of the period, Elizabeth D’Esperance. The series is concerned with memory, loss, and “nostalgia for the future,” or “nostalgia for what never came to pass.” Another film in the series, Material Passes Through Material, can be viewed here. The film is approximately 5 minutes long and is presented in a continuous loop.
